Tallow Face Cream: Why We Chose Tallow for Daily Skincare

When we first started making natural products, we had never even tried tallow skincare. We simply knew we wanted to create products with ingredients we could feel good about using on our own family.

Over time, tallow became one of the ingredients we kept coming back to. It is rich, simple, incredibly nourishing, and it gave us the kind of skincare base we had been looking for. Today, it is the heart of our Woodsy Earth Face Cream.

Why use tallow in a face cream?

Grass-fed beef tallow is naturally rich in fatty acids and fat-soluble nutrients. Its lipid profile makes it especially well suited for rich, moisture-supporting skincare. Rather than creating a face cream around a long list of fillers, we wanted to start with a simple base that helps soften the skin and support its natural moisture barrier.

Our Face Cream is intentionally dense, so a little goes a long way. I personally use just a small amount and let it melt into my skin as I apply it.

We did not stop at tallow

Tallow is the foundation, but every ingredient we add has a reason for being there. We infuse our tallow with calendula and comfrey, two herbs that have a long history of use in traditional skin preparations.

Calendula is loved in skincare for its soothing qualities, while comfrey has traditionally been used in topical preparations for dry, rough-looking skin. Infusing the herbs directly into our tallow allows us to keep the formula simple while bringing those botanicals into the finished cream.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba is technically a liquid wax, and one of the reasons we love it for facial skincare is its lightweight feel. It helps soften and condition the skin without making our Face Cream feel unnecessarily heavy.

Rosehip oil

Rosehip oil contains naturally occurring fatty acids and antioxidants and is commonly used in facial products designed to support smooth, healthy-looking skin. With consistent skincare, ingredients like rosehip can help support the appearance of more even, radiant skin.

Red raspberry seed oil

Red raspberry seed oil is naturally high in vitamin E and other antioxidants. Those antioxidants help protect skin lipids from oxidative stress while supporting healthy-looking skin. We love it because it adds another layer of nourishment without complicating the formula.

What can you expect from a tallow face cream?

Skincare is not an overnight fix, and we do not believe in promising that one jar will erase every line or completely change your skin. What a well-formulated moisturizer can do is support hydrated, soft, healthy-looking skin when used consistently.

Our customers often choose our Face Cream when they want a rich natural moisturizer, especially for dry or mature-looking skin. With regular use, it may also help improve the appearance of fine lines that are emphasized by dryness and support a more even-looking skin tone.

Why we make ours this way

We could make skincare differently. There are plenty of ingredients that would make production faster or formulas cheaper. But that was never the point of Woodsy Earth.

We render our tallow ourselves, infuse our herbs, and make our products in small batches because we want to know what is going into the jars we hand to our customers. The same products sitting on our store shelves are the products we bring home to our own family.

For us, switching to more natural products was never about being perfect. It was about making one better choice at a time. Face cream just happens to be one of those little everyday swaps.
